Amazing Space Facts. Shooting Stars or Meteors

There exists unlimited quantity of space debris which keeps floating in and around galaxies. When a bit of material from this debris enters into Earth’s atmosphere, it starts heating due to friction of the Air and the bright trail it leaves while burning is knows as Shooting Stars or Meteors.

The relatively large prices of meteors which do not burn completely till reaching out Earth’s surface, collide with the earth causing huge dumps and holes on earth surface. These pieces are called meteorites. Appearance of meteors can sometimes similar to earth rocks whereas, sometimes they may also look like thick metal prices.

It is estimated that meteors weighing about thousand of tons enter into the earth’s surface every day. A large majority of this space debris is very small (in the from of grain) which either burns or gently land on the surface of earth without being noticed. Origin of these meteors has sometimes found to be similar to the Asteroids and Comets.

Sighting of some meteors occurs regularly. The most common example of this phenomena is Perseids which appears around August in each year.

There have been reported incidences where human beings were hurt by these falling meteors. One of such incident was witnessed in Sylacauga, Alabama where a meteor weighing about 3.6 Kgs crashed the roof of Mrs. Hewlett Hodges house and severely injured her.
